The day has come!!!! Lily has been working very hard with Maverick and Maguire all summer. They have taught her how to take care of and prepare her calf to show and most importantly: how to show him in the ring. Matt and I were not much help in this category, so Lily spent a lot of time with them and did a good job listening to them.
She had to take a 4-H class with them in order to show at the fair. She went up early with them that morning to get Bullet and the other calves ready.
Maguire received the Intermediate Grand Champion in Showmanship the day before. :) So, I would say she has some good teachers. Hudson, Beckett, and I got all packed up and drove to Kearney. Beckett being only 6 days old, this was his furthest trip and stinkiest! ha ha!
Of course he was the popular one!!!
Doesn't Bullet look nice and soft? He was!
He's getting braver.
They want the calves to sit so they calm down and get rest. The rest of the calves found their spot and left a small corner for Bullet.
Phew, he finally found a spot to lay.
These are all the calves from the Widdowson Brothers. :)
What a great day for Beckett! He gets loved on by everyone! :)
The boys showed their heifers in the same class.
My good friend ReNae was there with her girls. She has 3 girls and a little boy Dax. Nice to see you ReNae! :)
Grandpa and Grandma Elsbury and Aunt Emily came from O'Neill to meet Beckett and watch Lily.
Lily was to show around 2:00 or so, but they were running behind. So, we waited around for a little while.
Getting a few more pointers from Guire.
So proud of this little girl!
Josh and Morgan and her friend came to watch Lily. How nice of them!
Sitting on Sterling. He is so tame. This is the steer that Maguire won Showmanship with.
It is so hard to sit still and quiet during some of the shows.
Doesn't she look cute!
Uncle John was a great teacher too. Lily and him got along good this summer.
Almost time to show!
It looks like they are having a cute moment. :)
There is an area to practice behind the actual show ring. Bullet and Lily were doing great!
Getting more tips from Mav. She is FULL of information!
They are ready!!!!
Grandma and her boys!
The stocker feeders are coming!
I tried to get good pictures. Bullet came in running. Lily did awesome trying to control him. He weighed in at 380+ pounds to my 60 pound little girl. That is quite a beast to control for her! ha ha!
She got some help from the man in the ring. She didn't let him take over, she really tried to get Bullet to listen to her.
Maguire planned being next to her. It was cute to see him whispering to her.
Making the rounds.
She's got him set up good.
They both look perfectly set up!!!!!
I don't know if it was hormones or what, but I was struggling to keep it together. I don't think I have ever been so proud. We wanted Lily to do this to work on her assertiveness and self confidence and boy did she! I was worried about her getting drug around the ring and now I don't know why I worried at all. LILY did AMAZING!!!! My sweet, little, quiet girl held her own in there! The videos aren't the best, but it gives you a little view of what it was like.
This video shows her and Maguire setting up their calves.
I loved this one. This calf is totally photo bombing Lily and Bullet. :)
Okay, if you haven't been to a cattle show, the judge slowly looks at them and starts having them line up in order of place. So, Maguire and Lily are with one other calf. They are the top 3.
In this video, Lily is having a hard time getting Bullet over there. She thought she was last to line up because she couldn't get Bullet to go, but actually its because they wanted her there because he got FIRST!
I wish I could have gotten a picture of Maverick and Uncle John at the ring exit because they were sooo proud!!!!
Since Lily won that class, she was in another show with the top 2 in each class. Bullet came in a little better this time.
She looks so serious and in control!
Well, she won again!!! The judge said the yellow calf looked good and had the best future!
You can see Maguire and Maverick at the end. This is a great win for all of them. They are the ones that took such great care of Bullet and taught Lily so much!
Matt and I couldn't believe she won! We were just proud of her to do this and didn't care if she won. :)
We went to the back to congratulate her and get some Grand Champion pictures!!!
The Widdowson Brothers and Lily with
The Grand Champion stocker feeder of 2016 Buffalo County Fair.
Lily and her grandparents.
She had to have some Beckett time!
Giving Bullet a good job tap! :)
The stinky fair didn't bother Beckett at all!
I am so proud of Lily. She made us proud that she did it with such confidence. It was just a total bonus that she won! :)
They are exhausted!!!!!
Grandpa, Grandma, and Aunt Emily came back to our house for supper.
He was so ready to stretch out! We got a little grin.
Their youngest grand baby.
Of course they have to wrestle.
Lily couldn't share very long.
Lily took these pics.
Way to go Lily!
They stayed for a little while and headed on home. Thanks for coming to meet Beckett and to support Lily.
What a great and busy day we had! Not very many babies can say they watched their sister win at fair at only 6 days old!!! :)
