Thanksgiving 2012

nnn ((This Thanksgiving will be remembered always.  It started out fine with a wonderful meal made by Grandma.  We were definitely full.  Everyone started relaxing and the men took out Gpa and Gma's chevelle.

The kids were all playing and we had a fierce game of Scrabble going on.  Lily and Sydney were running and Lily tripped at the foot of the stairs.  There is a pole at the bottom of the stairs that is square.  Lily hit her head on the point of the base of the pole.  We heard a sickening thud and then Lily screamed.  I ran over and grabbed Lily and moved her bangs away from her eye.  There was a lot of blood.  I carried her into Gma's bathroom where Grandma was ready with a cold wash cloth.  The cut was very deep and about an inch and a half wide.  I couldn't hold my tears back so I had to look away so I didn't scare her.  She was definitely scared and didn't like seeing the blood.  We tried to clean her off and then I held her and put pressure on the cut until Daddy came.  She whimpered, but was being very brave.  It was hard for me to look at thats for sure.  I don't think I have ever seen anything like it, and its worse when its your baby girl.

Matt and I took her to the ER in Kearney.  Since it was Thanksgiving and after 5:00 thats about all we had left.  It was also very deep, so we wanted it to be looked at by a doctor.  Surprisingly enough, they got us in really quick.  They were very calming with Lily and us.  They prepared us with what they were going to do and told us it is usually harder on the parents.  Matt decided to take a break in the bathroom because he was feeling light headed.  He came back as they were wrapping Lily up in a blanket (like a burrito, so she wouldn't kick and put her hands on her ouchie).  This was the hard part.  They had to deaden her cut so they could give her stitches.  She was so brave, but it HURT!  I hope I never have to watch one of my kids in that much pain.  They were so good with her though.  Once they were done with the shots, she put 2 stitches on the inside since it was so deep.  Then she put 7 stitches on the outside.  Lily let them do this with out complaining.  I watched the whole thing and held Lily's hands.  Finally when they were done, I got really hot.  I guess my maternal instincts kicked in because I did fine the whole time.  They put a bandage on it and came out with a surprise for her.  She was all smiles with her new beanie baby, Joey Fuzzy Wuzzy.

We were out of the hospital in a little over an hour.  We were instructed to watch her in case she had a concussion and to take care of her wound.  Lily was in much better spirits.  We went back to Gpa and Gma's and everyone was so glad she was okay.

Lily on the way home from the ER.  You can see her scrape on her cheek, chin, and there is a little scratch on her neck.  She had to have landed on that corner just right.  She is so lucky she didn't get her eye.    We decided not to have Lily stay at Gma and Gpa's that night, instead we brought Sydney to our house.  We woke up Lily a few times that night to make sure she didn't have a concussion.  In the morning, Lily's tummy did get upset.  She didn't eat much the night before, so she ate some breakfast and was back to her normal self.

On Friday, we had everyone to our house for the Football game.  We won!!!!

Can you tell Delanie loves Hudson.  I wish she lived closer, she would be an awesome babysitter! :)

Grandma brought gingerbread houses, so the kids enjoyed putting those together.

We were told the bandage had to stay on for a day, so we took it off that next night.  I was surprised it wasn't more swollen and black and blue.  We had to clean it out and put neosporin on it. That is not fun for Lily.  She hates that part.

Saturday, its looking rough, but not as bad as we thought.

Sunday, looking better!  She will definitely have a story to tell at school tomorrow!  So will I!

  1. Oh my gosh! That is sooo scary, I was getting that motherly sick feeling to my stomach reading your post. Jadyn hit her head on the corner of our buffet this year, so I know the thud and scream you are talking about. I'm glad she's okay now!
